Understanding Your Insurance Benefits

Insurance benefits can vary by plan. Reviewing your benefits before scheduling helps clarify whether therapy is covered and what your estimated out-of-pocket cost may be.

Send a clear copy of the front and back of your insurance card so your plan information can be reviewed.

2 Benefits are reviewed

Your eligibility, outpatient mental health benefits and telehealth coverage can be checked before scheduling.

3 Costs are estimated

Your estimated cost may depend on your deductible, copay, coinsurance and behavioral-health benefits.

4 Next steps are clarified

After benefits are reviewed, you can decide whether to use insurance or self-pay for services.

What can affect your cost?

Mental health benefits are not always the same as general medical benefits. Your insurance company may apply different rules for outpatient therapy, telehealth, deductibles or coinsurance.

How will I know what insurance will cost?

Your estimated cost depends on your plan's deductible, copay, coinsurance and behavioral-health benefits.

After you send the front and back of your insurance card, I can verify your available benefits and provide an estimate of your expected responsibility.

Why can insurance costs vary?

Insurance costs vary because each plan may handle outpatient mental health benefits differently. Your cost may depend on your deductible, copay, coinsurance, network status and whether telehealth is covered by your plan.

Some plans require a deductible to be met before benefits apply. Other plans may have a fixed copay or coinsurance amount for outpatient therapy.

What should I ask my insurance company?

If you want to confirm your benefits directly, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask about outpatient mental health coverage.

Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
Is George Joseph, LPC/LMHC in network with my plan?
What is my copay or coinsurance for therapy?
Do I have a deductible that must be met first?
Is telehealth covered for outpatient therapy?
Do you offer self-pay therapy?

Yes. Self-pay is available for clients who do not have insurance, prefer not to use insurance or have a plan with which I am not currently in network.

Self-pay may also offer greater privacy and flexibility because treatment does not require insurance authorization.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

Many clients use Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account funds to pay for therapy or eligible clinical services. Eligibility varies, so confirm coverage with your HSA or FSA administrator.

Do you offer a consultation?

Yes. I offer a brief 15-minute consultation to discuss what you are looking for, answer initial questions and determine whether working together may be a good fit.

Request a consultation or appointment.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Credit and debit cards are accepted for self-pay sessions. Eligible clients may also use HSA or FSA funds.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellation or rescheduling. Late cancellations and missed appointments may be charged the full session fee.

Review the complete Refund and Cancellation Policy.
