Anxiety
A deeper look at worry, rumination, panic symptoms, and how therapy helps over time.
Understanding anxiety
Anxiety can show up as constant worry, over-thinking, physical tension, poor sleeping, or irritability.
In therapy, we clarify the pattern. For some people, anxiety is related to perfectionism, self-criticism, or social acceptance. It’s often tied to attachment styles that shape how safe (or unsafe) you feel. See Understanding Attachment Styles.
Anxiety also presents with mood issues such as depression. See Depression Therapy (Online).
Common patterns anxiety can create
Anxiety isn’t only a feeling—it's short-term coping.
- Rumination & mental checking: replaying conversations, over-thinking, trying to “solve” feelings with thought.
- Perfectionism: pressure to be the best, fear of failure, and self-criticism.
- Avoidance: procrastination, or withdrawal.
- Control strategies: over-planning, over-functioning, and trouble trusting others.
- Body tension: tight chest, teeth grinding, GI upset, or insomnia.
If anxiety is affecting your relationships, confidence, or ability to relax, therapy can help. Many clients also benefit from improving emotional regulation and understanding how their reactions are shaped over time.
Who this helps
Clients who are thoughtful and capable—but tired of being anxious under the surface.
- Chronic worry, rumination, and difficulty “turning your brain off”
- Panic symptoms, health preoccupation, or persistent physical tension
- Social anxiety, performance pressure, or fear of judgment
- Perfectionism, people-pleasing, and self-criticism
- Work stress and burnout
- Anxiety adjusting to life changes (divorce, career, moving, becoming a parent)
If you want broader context, see Individual Therapy.
My approach
Anxiety work is both insight-oriented and practical. We identify what triggers your anxiety, how your nervous system responds, and the patterns that keep it going.
The goal is not just symptom relief, but a deeper understanding that leads to more consistent, long-term change.
